Back to school time means sports will be starting soon and once sports start, that probably means it will be time to sign up to bring snacks so….. I wanted to share a few simple team snack ideas that are easy to transport and always a hit with the players. I also try to find options that the kids can easily carry and eat on the buses when heading to after-school games.
My favorite way to package snacks are these plastic cups with lids. If you’re serving something that needs a spoon or fork, just use a utensil in place of a straw. (Tip: put the spoon or fork in before filling cup)
It helps keep everything contained and is easy for the kids to eat. (Can you tell I’m all about keeping things easy?) If you’re the creative type, you can decorate the cups or write the players’ names on them. I typically make the spoons or forks the team color. I also like to carry all of my snacks in a basket and either tie ribbons on the basket in the team colors or line the basket with a cloth napkin in one of the team colors. This is not Martha Stewart level stuff here guys, just adding a little something easy to show some team spirit. The best part is, it literally takes about 5 seconds to do, can be removed and swapped out for other sports and it looks festive.
These are fruit cups I took to my daughter’s volleyball game. There are so many ways to fill em’ up. You can add veggies and dip, fruit and cheese cubes, trail mix and cheese, peanut butter energy balls, the list goes on and on. You could even fill them with parfaits.
Depending on what you fill them with, if you’re concerned about transporting them, place a muffin tin inside a basket, box or tray and then place your cups inside the muffin tin. This will help them from sliding or tumping over.
Another fun way to package snacks is using takeout box containers. These containers make super easy for the players to carry and eat and you can also decorate these, add ribbon or write the players’ names and numbers on them. In the boxes, you can put sliced apples and peanut butter, pretzel crisps, carrots, dip, edamame or half a sandwich and a side all in one container.
You can also use brown lunch bags for your snacks. There are so many ways to decorate the bags and you could even solicit your player to help you the night before. You could also sub the brown for white bags and use a red marker or paint to decorate bags for baseball. For an easy snack to toss in, grab a fruit cup and a sharpie and make the top look like a basketball, baseball or football.
If you’re feeling extra, you could make your foods themed after the sport. Like packing sunflower seeds or Cracker Jacks for baseball.
Cute sayings on a sticker or bag are always fun too! Here are a few ideas:
Soccer- Let’s Goal! Way 2 Goal!
Volleyball– You’ve Been Served! Dig in!
Baseball- Have a Ball! Chew Em’ Up and Spit Em’ Out (attach to sunflower seeds)
Football- Are You Ready For Some Football? Victory Never Tasted So Sweet!
Basketball- Take it to the hoop! Hope you have a slam-dunking game!
Cheer- We’ve got spirit, yes we do! We’ve got spirit, thanks to YOU!
Track/Cross Country- On a Trail to Victory (attach to Trail Mix for Cross Country)
There ya go! It’s super easy to throw together cute snacks for your child’s team! Have fun.
Until next time,
Kelly
