Hey hey hey! Today, I’m picking up where we left off in my Fall series. If you missed part one where I shared some porch inspo, you can find it here and in part two I talked about the scents that I love to have in my home during cooler months.
Now, I want to touch on cozying things up with accessories. I don’t decorate a ton for fall and I’ll admit, it’s partly because I like to stick to my color palette. But I do place a few white pumpkins, lanterns with candles, and warmer throws around the house to cozy things up. One of the best things I’ve learned about seasonal decorating was changing my mindset to simplified decorating. I highly recommend taking The Nester’s e-course Cozy Minimalist Course :: Seasons + Celebrations.
I don’t receive any compensation for recommending it, I just like to share things that have been helpful to me. After watching the course last year before Christmas, decorating was so much easier and the decor was simple enough that I didn’t get tired of it but it still felt festive. Will I still decorate our tree, hang a garland and put up small trees in the kid’s rooms? Heck yes! As long as my kids still enjoy them, they’ll have a festive room. But, after the Cozy Minimalist Course, I sent the boys back upstairs with a lot of unopened tubs when we started decorating for the holidays. All this to say, it really helped me learn to pair down and use only the things I truly loved. Myquillyn, the author of Cozy Minimalist Home, has a design approach of using the least amount of stuff to get the most amount of style.
Today, I’m going to share some simple accessories that I use during fall to cozy our home.
Throw blankets: We have an abundance of throws year round in our house but when it gets cooler out, I like to bring out more texture, heavier weights, and warmer colors. I keep a few thrown over various seating areas and have a larger basket in our living room with folded blankets. One of our family faves is the Barefoot Dreams blanket and right now it’s on sale for under $50. You guys this is a steal and it would make a great gift!
Another favorite throw is this one. It’s soft and heavier in weight and comes in multiple colors.
Something I’ve been wanting is one of these chunky knitted wool blankets. I love the texture.
I also love buffalo check in the fall and there are so many great options.
Lanterns: I love to use lanterns year round in different ways. During the fall, I will place candles inside them or a few mini white pumpkins. I’ve also love to fill them with greenery during fall and winter.
I love these
And these
Greenery: Search your yard for sources of greenery and foliage. There’s nothing prettier than a balloon vase with some greenery or branches in it. We have these balloon vases and I love them.
This greenery from Hearth and Hand is a great price.
And this comes with the greenery and vase at under $7!
Baskets/trays/dough bowls: I love a good basket. They can hold so many things and still keep a clean aesthetic. During the fall, I use them to house blankets and throw pillows because colder days mean my gang will be nestled up more when we’re home.
Trays are functional and help corral things that might otherwise look scattered. They are also great when you really want to show something off too. Try thinking about the things you spend your time doing in cooler months. Do you read more books? Keep them on a tray near your favorite reading spot with a scented candle.
If your family plays more games, use a basket or tray with some of your favorites to keep them in the family room.
My kids enjoy hot cocoa when it’s cold and I tend to drink more hot tea, so we usually set up a little beverage station on a tray with mugs, a fall hand towel, some spoons, cocoa, and tea.
I love dough bowls and have a couple that I fill for different seasons. During the winter, I’ll fill them with pine greenery or some glass ornaments. For fall, I might add some gourds or branches in them. I always keep it simple, but the impact is big. I love these from Ballard Designs.
Decorating for fall or any other season does not have to be overwhelming. You don’t have to have orange and brown everywhere for your home to reflect the fall season. Just introducing some texture and warmer tones can have the same impact. When you choose simple decor that can transition with you from season to season, it makes the whole process much easier. It also means less to get out, take down and store and more time to actually enjoy the season. Be sure to stop by https://thecozyclass.com for more info on cozy minimalism.
