For today’s mood board, I wanted to share some home accessories that can be used in a variety of spaces and won’t break the bank.
Dough bowls: One of my favorite accessories is my antique dough bowl. I own two and frequently move them from room to room. They have so many uses, I just love the versatility. In my kitchen, I use them for fruit or to hold candles. In our entry, I’ve filled them with ornaments during the holidays and gourds in the fall. Smaller dough bowls are great to hold mail and keys. You can put magazines in them or even leave them empty. In our bar, we use one for wine corks. There are a ton of ways to use them! You can find antique ones in antique stores and on Ebay, or you can get reproductions at places like Pottery Barn and Ballard Designs. But, today we are talking about pieces that aren’t a splurge, so here are a few I found at great price points.
Decorative beads: Decorative beads can be used on coffee tables, bookshelves, vanity trays, draped over baskets or jars. Some of my favorites are made with ashanti beads and I also like the bone bead ones. They’re a great inexpensive way to add texture.
Footed bowls: I love footed bowls. They can add height to a vignette and you can use them for all sorts of stuff. I love smaller ones in a bathroom to hold jewelry, cotton swabs, and bar soaps. Larger footed bowls work great in the kitchen, on coffee tables, entry tables and shelves. They are also a pretty way to store things on an office desk. I am also a sucker for concrete bowls. I love the neutral color and I also think concrete bowls look good with so many types of decor. You can use them for succulents, plants, fruit, filled with decorative objects or empty on a table or shelf. Even though they are usually fairly smooth, there’s something about the concrete that adds texture.
Decorative trays: Decorative trays look great on coffee tables, in bathrooms and offices. I love that you can use them anywhere and they give a more polished look when grouping objects.
Vases: Vases don’t always have to be used for flowers. I love vases for height on bookshelves and coffee tables. Depending on the shape/size, they can also be used to store kitchen utensils, office supplies and toiletries. I love to store ordinary everyday items in pretty containers.
Belly baskets: I use baskets everywhere and I really love belly baskets. They are lightweight, have great texture and I love the shape. You can find them in many colors and patterns but my favorite ones are the neutral tones because you can use them anywhere. You can store blankets in them, magazines, dog toys and supplies, kids toys, towels, throw pillows, you name it. So MANY uses. The smaller ones also make pretty shelf accents.
Photo frames: This is just an easy one. Photo frames work great in tons of places too. I love that they add a personal touch to a space whether it be a family photo or somewhere you’ve traveled. There are so many different textures and colors available, you can always find one to match your space.
The great thing about all of these items is the versatility. Anytime I purchase any home accessroies, I always try to get things that can be moved around and used for different things. I like to switch things up often, so I steer clear from items that aren’t very versatile.
